Outspkn is a communications consulting business, and I, Daphna Weinstock, am a communications consultant. I started as a public speaking coach, but my passion, interests, and experiences have molded my business (and myself) into something larger.
My goal in this business, and in this life, is to boost communication among all people from all different backgrounds, abilities, experiences. Public speaking is a vital element in communication—which you will read about many more times, I am sure—but so is expert writing skills. On top of that you have the essential yet unspoken body language. On top of that you need important conversations and considerations on diversity, privilege, personal strengths, and a deep understanding of the importance of “other” before you can properly communicate with anyone. It’s all important. It all plays a tremendous, comprehensive role in our communications every second of everyday.
My theatre background undoubtedly led me to this mission. The theatre kid in me has been trained to dissect every conversation, every interaction. Scripts are perfectly crafted worlds of communication. Communicating in the real world is much harder. Communication is a massive undertaking and it requires a lot of work on a lot of different components.
It has been a thrill and a joy to work with all different kinds of people over the last year through Outspkn. Over and over, I have witnessed marvelous transformations in people of all ages becoming more comfortable to communicate their strengths and own what makes them unique. I have seen them learn to listen with their ears and bodies. I have witnessed communication at its finest.
My clients have humbled me in their desire to better themselves. The truth is everyone (myself included) can use training and help in communication. The people who seek it out for themselves are making a statement that they care about how they speak to others. They care about how they hold and speak for themselves.
These people have inspired me to continue to grow my business and start this blog. Here I will share my general thoughts on the art of communication; tales from my work with real people making real strides; case studies on famous communicators; simple tips in effective verbal and nonverbal communication; and many other pieces that I hope will shed some light on the illusive art of communication.
I am looking forward to adding my voice to the conversation. I thank you, dear reader, for joining me on the journey.
